Raising funds for Art in Healthcare

Reported to reduce stress, resolve problems and boost self-esteem, art has been used as a healing device for thousands of years. Since the mid-twentieth century, art therapy has become a recognised practice and Art in Healthcare is a charity that supports its aims.

This Edinburgh-based charity aspires to bring art and creativity to people in hospital, care homes, community health centres, hospices and other healthcare settings. Their mission is to use visual art to improve health and wellbeing.

This year, Art in Healthcare will be the sole recipient of all proceeds from the 9th annual Twitter Art Exhibit (#TAE19). This social media powered exhibition auctions affordable postcard-sized art by artists from around the world. It took place in Scotland’s historic capital on 11th May and our very own Tracey submitted an entry.

When she isn’t ensuring our artwork is the dog’s danglies, our talented head of production is busy bringing people’s fur babies to life in her own pet portraits. She chose our agency pooch, Bonnie, as the subject for her entry.

Bonnie seemed like the perfect fit as she’s a therapy dog at Myerscough College in Bilsbarrow, near Garstang. Therapy dogs are trained to provide comfort to people in different situations. At the college, Bonnie’s role is to bring calmness to students with additional learning needs.

Tracey’s pencil crayon drawing of Bonnie went on sale with over a thousand others from artitsts worldwide and she travelled to Edinburgh to visit the exhibition. Tracey tweeted that it was fabulous seeing all the art on display and meeting the Twitter Art Exhibit’s founder, David Sandum, who believes ‘Through art we can change the world’.

The event was an enormous success, already raising £15,000, and every postcard sale will help Art in Healthcare to develop and extend their workshop programme to benefit more people within the healthcare system.

Tracey’s pet portrait of our Bonnie has been snapped up, but you still can still purchase one of these wonderful pieces of art from the Art in Healthcare online shop.
